Elements of rock and roll can be heard from the Blues music in the 1920s. The Rhythm and Blues are the main innovators behind the development of Rock and Roll music. An example of call and response in music would be when a musician says “Can I get an Amen?” and the crowd responds by shouting “Amen.” The African-Americans were very smart and in order to communicate with each other while working at the plantation, they created R&B music and while plantation owners thought that this music was “happy” music created by hard working slaves, they were actually practicing call and response to communicate with each other. Many of these African-Americans were brought to The United States as slaves and before the civil war, these people were told to work in the Southern plantation regions. Rhythm and Blues, also known as R&B music was created by African-Americans in the South in the 1920s.

Rock and Roll originated in The United States of America and had been created by the mixture of country music, western music, rhythm and the blues. There are many controversies about the time Rock and Roll originated but, most of them point to the 1950s. Many historians say that the emergence of Rock and Roll goes all the way back to the mid 1920s, most historians claim that the exact year for the beginning of the Rock and Roll era was 1954 and some say that Rock and Roll music originated in the late 1940s and developed through the early 1950s.

The question is, "How and when did it begin?" Maybe it’s your mom saying that her new dish is “rocking”, maybe it’s a friend saying “Rock on, dude” or maybe you’ve heard the saying “party like a rockstar” but we’ve all referred to Rock at least once in our lives. We all have heard the word “Rock” many times in our lives in many different contexts.
